I have some "nursing' duties to attend to....but, wanted to tell you about Mr. Isaac.

He was up ALL night long.  SCREAMING, crying, coughing, and having a hard time breathing.  AND...he got a fever of 101.5 (while on Tylenoyl)...so, our good ped isn't open on Saturdays, but the one that is scared of us is.  SO..I call him and he meets us in the office.  He doesn't want to give Isaac any meds...he wants us to go to the ER (of course he does).  So, off we go.  And it wasn't crowded and the nurses were sweet (how delightful!).

Bottomline...Isaac has double ear infections (probably the cause of the sudden fever and cranky-pants) and he has RSV!  Just slap that scarlet letter on us now!  PLEASE!  So...we have antibiotics for the ears and drops and he wants us to follow up with the pulmonologist and card this week.  But, he's not sure if this is the start of his RSV or if he's had it for a few weeks (like when we had to put him on O2...no one tested for RSV).  Thankfully, they let us come home already.  But, if his breathing gets any worse, we have to go back!

They tried to draw blood from Isaac (I tried to tell them).  Thank goodness the best lab tech came up and she remembered me and Isaac...so, she tried once and told them that he was impossible.  So, they gave up on trying to get any.  (They NEVER believe me.  They say, "So...do they have to use the light to try to find the veins?"  I say, "the light..are you kidding me.  They have to use the ultrasound machine!"  They are shocked that I even know of it's existence and then they are believers!!

Hopefully, Mr. Isaac will feel better tonight with him new drugs on board...and we can ALL get some sleep.  Looks like I'm on lock down again.  Just when it's warming up...grrhhh!

Eli had his first t-ball practice today.  I missed it.  But, at least Joe and Chris were there to cheer him on.  And Chris...well, I saw him for a second...now, he's off to GameStop with a friend.

Oh I am so sorry that little Isaac is sick. RSV AND ear infections does not sound fun. Hopefully he bounces back fast and gets back his happy little self.
3 boys sound good to me right now with 2 of my girls being all hormonal!
You are doing a great job - hang in there.

Tell Chris I'm also sorry for not taking him to gamestop. I'll make it up to him next time I see him.

Oh my goodness. You poor things! I am so sorry that Isaac is feeling like poo-poo! I am sorry that he has RSV too! He even gets the Synagis shots doesn't he? Leave it to one of our boys to be in the 15% that will still get RSV while on the shots! Poor thing. Big hugs and kisses to you all. Try to get some rest Kathy...though I know you won't. I am so glad that you already have oxygen at home to take care of this. Tell him to get better really soon.

Lots of love,
Samantha

Noooooooo! I was out today and am just now getting online. I read your comment on my CB then jumped over to your blog to get the scoop! That little stinker!! He is not allowed to have RSV! I will have to get that letter to you...trust me, you'll need it!! I don't think anyone would bat an eye over a virus with any other initials, but its THOSE initials that freak everyone out! Our ped. said that the reason he put him on Augmentin was to hopefully protect his lungs. Apparently the 2 secondary infections these "RSV positive" babies like to get are ear infections and pneumonia. Good idea to check with the pulmonologist about it since Isaac is NOT allowed to get pneumonia, too!! OK, I would lie to you if I HAD to, but it shouldn't run a long course. I was also told that it gets worse days 3, 4, & 5. We had pretty much an exact start date to work with and it was right on target. Did he have a clear, runny nose? That is the beginning symptom of it so if he did maybe you can remember when that started? You will just really have to be on your toes and listen for the wheezing and stuff. Jake lucked out and didn't go through that too badly. Since I am now the resident expert, feel free to ask any questions you have!! I hope this is a short run and since he's on his oxygen anyway, hopefully that will be a big plus!! Poor little guy...give him a big hug! I do know it makes them feel like crap!

The heart mom's name I was talking about is Catherine. I met her AND Samantha Major. (did you think her name was Samantha, too?) She doesn't have a blog that I know of, but I just met her.

Oh, and it looks like you'll have to put lifts in Chris's shoes when he meets his future bride....she's 5'11"!! Do I even want to ask how tall Chris is? Is it something they could overcome??? I would like to have a handsome son-in-law!

I hope you guys get some sleep. Another thing my ped. said is to not let the cough scare you. It sounds nasty!

Take care!!

WOW. RSV. Honestly, Kanani had it twice even though she was getting the synagis series both times... the second bout she got was post OHS... the docs assured me that the synagis series benefited her because the RSV wasn't as bad as it could have been. But she had really sick lungs to begin with anyway, so... she did end up in the hospital for a week, on a continuous neb, then she was on O2 for several weeks post RSV recovery...

it must be going around something fierce because my baby is recovering from it and my nephew also is recovering from it as well...

Yuck. And all they can do is breathing treatments, chest percussion therapy, and wait. Cindy's right. Don't let the cough frighten you cuz it sounds horrible. I'd even say run the humidifier, or if you can get your hands on an attachment for the O2 to run the air through a bottle of warmish water, that really helped Kanani's recovery (the O2 was warmed and moistened so I think it helped her move out the gunk and not dry out her airways)... keep up with the neb treatments... try to get some rest and get/stay healthy- you deserve a break! still thinking and praying for you guys! -kamaile

Oh gesh! As if you need this! I haven't been able to check in on you in a few days and the first thing out of my mouth when I saw the little man's hospital pic was, "oh no!". I'm sorry you're having to deal with RSV. I'm paranoid Aubrey will get that with her compromised lungs. Our insurance denied the shots now that she's out of the hospital. They are backwards! Sure, they approve it for IN the hospital but now that she's discharged they deny it... as if being in public has no risk. Are they serious!?

I hope little man gets healthy quick! I'm glad you had a chance to get a break and go out with your hubby. You need that re-connection time. Take care!

So sorry little Issac that you have the dreaded RSV! We have heard that bug over and over amongst local friends and oh how I don't want it around here! Praying for Issac, and Mommy too.

Oh Isaac, just when Grandma is sitting back chillin' all of this comes up. Little man, be sure to take all your medicine, get plenty of rest, and please try to stay OUT of that hospital. Hope you feel better soon.

Ah geez,

what a nightmare...

YOU ALL ARE DUE FOR A BREAK NOW!

Oh no...not RSV! You almost gave me a heart attack when I saw the hospital pic. Maybe next time you should say he's okay before posting a hospital pic. Phew..now I can breath.

I am so sorry to hear Isaac has RSV but you've been on top of everything so I know he'll recover in no time. At least he's already been on the O2 so hopefully a few days on the new drugs with make him better.

I'm keeping you all in my prayers.

OH MY GOODNESS! Oh sweet Isaac, I'm so sorry you're sick. Double ear infections? And RSV? Well I think this might explain some recent behaviors, but of course it's not good news by any means. Hang in there and get lots of rest so you can heal up! We are thinking about and praying hard for you!

Kathy, how are YOU doing? Are you able to get some rest? I hope you can find some peace and rest soon. I think about you all the time and how crazy hectic your life is. Take care of yourself as best you can!

Ok, gonna go say an Isaac prayer right now. Heal up, little one! Hugs and kisses to you.

Megan & boys
